I have been reflecting on recent events since the announcement of the Transforming Rehabilitation consultation on the Probation Review and the issues this has raised for me as a Chief Executive in Lancashire. The consultation process appears to have been done at a speed that has created anxiety for our staff. However, some of the issues such as the concept of peer mentoring and working with under 12 months sentenced prisoners is great and very much welcomed.

Is it that post Richard McCann, Steven Duncan and Tim Campbell Blues or a dilemma of how to put it all into practice? It was a truly remarkable feeling to be at the Imperial Blackpool amongst virtually all of the staff in Lancashire. I felt the passion and enthusiasm that had been created and my own sense of pride to be associated with a group of staff who were clearly enjoying the content and a day out at the seaside.

The Criminal Justice Act 2003 (CJA 2003) provides for the establishment of Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) in each of the 42 criminal justice areas in England and Wales. These are designed to protect the public, including previous victims of crime, from serious harm by sexual and violent offenders. They require the local criminal justice agencies and other bodies dealing with offenders to work together in partnership in dealing with these offenders.

Why is it that even though I'm from the North East of England, six months in the North West and I'm disappointed for Blackburn, delighted for Fleetwood and cheering for Blackpool in the play offs. Lancashire Probation Trust has teamed up with Lancashire County Council to get offenders serving community sentences to help construct the Preston Guild Wheel – a major cycling route and one of Preston’s largest public transport projects. Offenders will be starting work on part of the route at Cottam on Tuesday 16th March.

Offenders supervised by Lancashire Probation Trust cleared the way for a funeral as ice and snow threatened it with cancellation. The cold weather had been jeopardising funeral processions at the church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour in Blackburn because of the treacherous conditions.
